Drag-n-drop of an Instance to Rehost Requires that the vhost/instance be Active
Summary
Rehosting an instance to another Vhost using drag-n-drop requires the Vhost and instance be active.
Information
DxEnterprise supports dragging and dropping an instance from one Vhost to another Vhost. To use this feature, both the Vhost and the instance must be active.
- Confirm that the source Vhost and the instance are active — not stopped or frozen.
- Verify that the destination Vhost is active and located on the same node as the source Vhost.
Follow these steps to create two Vhosts and perform a drag-and-drop operation for an instance:
- Create the first Vhost and name it
Vhost1. - Create the second Vhost and name it
Vhost2, ensuring it is configured on the same node asVhost1. - Add a disk to the disk group associated with
Vhost1. - Add an instance to
Vhost1. - Click and hold the left mouse button on the instance, then drag it over to
Vhost2and release to drop it there. - The instance will begin running under
Vhost2. - To ensure the instance retains access to its data, move the disk from
Vhost1toVhost2. Right-click on the disk group underVhost1and remove the disk. - Right-click on the disk group under
Vhost2and add the same disk toVhost2.
It is essential to transfer the disk volume from the original Vhost to the new one so the instance continues to have access to its files.
